Standard Operating Procedure(SOP) Of Centrifugal Pumps.
Let’s know about the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Of Pumps. which can make it easy to operate at chemical, Ammonia Process, Basic Process, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Process Technology, Chemical Industries, Lubricant Manufacturing, Manufacturing Industries, Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, Power Generation, or any other processing plant.
Starting a centrifugal pump for the first time can be a troublesome experience unless the plant crew has made a thorough check of the unit during and after installation, there are probably more unusual accidents and troubles during the initial starting of a pump than at almost any other time.

# Steps Of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Of Pump:-
Inspection Works Before Start-Up.
Pre Start- Up Check Points.
Post-Start-Up Check Points.
CheckPoints During Normal Operation.
# Inspection Works Before Start-Up.
In the initials stage, factors to be considered the starting any centrifugal pump include.
Alignment Of Pump.
Rotation Of Rotor.
Sight Gase Glass.
Lube oil System.
Priming And Barring.
Pump Auxiliary Piping.
# Pre Start- Up Check Points.
The lubrication system of all bearing points must be check.
Cooling water must be circulating through all water cooling systems.
Prime mover power (electricity or Steam, etc as a driving force) should be checked.
Rotate the Pump rotor by hand.
level of liquid at the suction side should be check.
Delivery valve closed for Centrifugal Pump otherwise delivery valve should be open.
The pump should be warmed gradually by slowly circulating hot liquid through the pump.
# Start-Up Procedures.
The suction valve should be open.
Priming should be performed properly.
The re-circulation valve or spill-back line should be opened.
When the pump reached normal operating speed open the discharge valve slowly.
The liquid is brought into the pump by venting the casing.
The suction line should full of liquid to be pumped.
The direction of rotation should be check by the ON-OFF switch.
The pump should started-up with the aid of a prime mover.
# Post-Start-Up Check Points.
Process parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow, etc.
Temperature and vibration of all bearing points.
Motor amps / Turbine load.
Check the leakage from the stuffing box.
Adjust sealing water.
Check the bearing lube oil flow and pressure.
Check the suction, discharge, lube-oil, cooling water, pressure, and temperature.
# CheckPoints During Normal Operation.
Suction and discharge pressure.
Lube oil temperature and pressure.
Cooling water suction and discharge temperature.
Oil level at all bearing points.
Driving side energy consumption.
Vibration and abnormal sound.
# Shutdown Works.
When a pump operates against a high discharge pressure the following steps are to be adopted to shut down the pump.
Open the Spielback or bypass line.
Shut off the power.
As soon as the power is off, close the discharge valve fully.
Do not shut off the cooling and sealing liquid Supply until the shaft has stopped turning fully.
